A conversation with Lucas

So I was fixing some sprinklers in the backyard and Lucas was helping shovel the dirt so I decided to strike up a conversation with him. For some strange reason I made him feel extremely at ease and he decided to be very honest....almost too honest. :-)

Scott: Luke, what is the hardest part about being a kid?
Luke: Doing what your parents say
Scott: Yeah, thats tough, what else?
Luke: Telling the truth
Scott: What is so hard about telling the truth?
Luke: It's hard when you don't want to get in trouble for doing something bad.
Scott: Yeah, that is hard, what kind ofthings have you done that you don't tell the truth about?
Luke: Oh, like when I steal.
Scott: Steal what?
Luke: Oh, the coins out of your cup in your drawer.
Scott: Oh, yeah, that is hard to tell the truth about.

I think he forgot that I was the one that he was stealing from, he was confessing like a hardened ciminal, not even a flinch. I was torn between being ecstatic that we were having a real father-son talk, and the fact that my son was ripping me off.

Summer in Spring

The last 2 days were like summer (for Seattle that is) and it is only early April. We hit a record of 80 in Redmond yesterday. Since the weather was right we loaded up the kids and went to Alki Beach in West Seattle for dinner and a sea shell hunt, the kids love it everytime. Even though the "seashells" we find are nothing more than broken clam shells, they still find it highly entertaining. Grace and Lucas both came home with pockets full of broken clam shells....Click the kids to get to the gallery.
